Beginnings

Never since high school did I think I’d write something remotely literary ever again, yet here we are. I’m starting this blog because I’m learning how to produce music, and a lot of the stuff I’ll post, I’d be writing anyways, more on that later. So while I’m at it, might as well track my progression and thoughts as I explore the world of music production.

At the time of this post it’s been a year since I started learning - in that time I’ve gotten a grasp of Ableton basics, walked through the creation of a few sample tracks and produced 2 of my own tracks based on what I’d learned so far on top of my background in classical and preferences in EDM.

While tapping my creativity and exploring what I could make was fun, I’ve realized that in order to quickly progress my skills and make tracks up to par with actual EDM music I’d need a more structured approach to learning. So for the next lengthy amount of time (probably a year or so) I’ll be picking interesting tracks, doing an analysis of their musical structure, instrumentation, quirks etc, and then making a loosely similar track based on that structure and incorporating any cool techniques, but of course also with my own twists.
